The current scientific conference, organized by the Department of Poster and Visual Communication is the fourth in a series of conferences held every five years. This is the period when one class leaves the Academy  giving place for another - certainly different.
This year's theme is related to the problems of the education in visual communication and the related relations with the visual culture of the society. The conference is also part of the events marking the 70th anniversary of the specialty.
Visual communication is the most ancient part of the visual arts. From the time when speech was not developed and later when languages split. Today this has reached the importance of oxygen for modern communication.
The contemporary education in this field has the task of providing a wide range of knowledge in the wide range of graphic design, applied graphics and advertising in the phase of the interlacement of the classical with the new multimedia means of visual art. The various forms of visual communication are particularly dynamic but they cannot exist without the classical principles in the visual arts. This makes education particularly complex and variable giving on the one hand a stable and traditional knowledge of the field but also directing the interest of young artists in the closest to their visual abilities and interests  modern forms of visual communication.
Of particular importance is the passage in a short time in a wide variety of design tasks (logos, typography, poster, commercial graphics, periodicals, heraldic signs, documents, emblems, calligraphy, print advertising entities, web design, various works of motion graphics and many others). This not only gives a general idea and basis for development in any particular direction - it also creates artists with a wide range of opportunities.
The times we live in are hastened by the development of technology and communication and hence the relationship between education and our surrounding visual environment which must be like docked vessels to be adequate in time.
It is no coincidence that the conference is held during an estimation of the creation of the Master's programs “Visual Communication” and “Poster” in the previous ten years and the youngest in “Calligraphy” which was created five years ago.
