The new logo of Atanasovsko Lake, created by a student from the Department of Poster and Visual Communication

The awards from the competition educational task for a logo of Atanasovsko Lake held among the 3rd- and 4th-year students in the Department of Poster and Visual Communication in Sofia and the Burgas Branch of the National Academy of Art were presented at the Birdwatching Shelter on the shore of Atanasovsko Lake in Burgas. The event was attended by the laureates themselves, and by representatives of the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation – BBF, EmpowerUs, National Academy of Art, Municipality of Burgas, Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Burgas, media, friends of the lake.

Choosing the new logo of Atanasovsko Lake among over 40 wonderful proposed designs was not an easy job for the EmpowerUs project committee, but the work by Ina Vezenkova, the winning one, most accurately illustrates the lake with its varying colours throughout the year and its most characteristic inhabitants–the birds. The pink colour of the crystallizers, where the salt is extracted, the blue-green waters of the lake full of life and ... the birds that wade, walk or swim in its ponds. Each of the works examines the lake through one of its characteristic features–either the letter A, or an interesting bird, or a bohor (a pile of salt), etc. Particular attention is paid to the colours that are so specific to the "pink lake".

The first place and project realisation went to Ina VEZENKOVA, 4th-year student in Sofia (BGN 300 and prize objects), the 2nd place – to Anna IVANOVA, 3rd-year student in Sofia (BGN 200 and prize objects), and to Zornitsa YOVEVA, 4th-year student in Sofia (BGN 200 and prize objects), the 3rd place – to Anna MARLAKOVA, 4th-year student in Sofia (100 BGN and prize objects), and to Stella GEORGIEVA, 4th-year student in Sofia (BGN 100 and prize objects). It might be interesting to know that the competition winner, who studies at the National Academy of Art in Sofia, is actually from Burgas and perhaps, this is another reason for her work becoming first-prize winning.

The BBF team will immediately start to use the logo within the framework of the current EmpowerUs project and will provide it to the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water in Burgas, which is the owners of the reserve, and to the Municipality of Burgas, which is also actively promoting the urban lake that has become the emblem of the Black Seaside city.

The BBF would like to thank the colleagues from the National Academy of Art for for being cooperative and for holding of the competition, especially to Assoc. Prof. Nenko Atanasov, PhD, who is fully committed to the idea.
