On June 24, 2020 at 3 pm in the Burgas Branch of the National Academy of Art, the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications will release a postal and philatelic edition on the topic "Bulgarian Urban Heraldry". The coats of arms of Burgas and Haskovo are presented in a series of two postage stamps, formed in a block list with a vignette and milesim. The edition is supplemented by a first-day postal envelope and a special post stamp.
The author of the graphic design is Chief Assist. Nenko Atanasov, PhD, lecturer in Poster and Visual Communication at the National Academy of Art who is also the initiator and importer of the topic "Bulgarian Urban Heraldry" in the thematic plan of our native stamp publishing.
The series have additional value due to the first published visual graphic standard for rank crowns of local coats of arms compiled by the Bulgarian Heraldic and Vexillological Society, with authors Dimitar Popov (historian and herald) and Nenko Atanasov (artist).
The depicted coats of arms of Burgas (created by Prof. Kiril Gogov and Prof. Georgi Chapkanov in 1994) and Haskovo (created by Boril Karaivanov and Emanuil Manolov in 1995) are one of the most beautiful heraldic symbols of Bulgarian municipalities and set the beginning of a new story line in the design of postage stamps in our country.
The validation of the edition in Burgas will be an occasion for a celebration for the artistic, philatelic, heraldic and general public of the seaside town.
