Ludmil Chehlarov is one of the most recognizable Bulgarian poster artists. For the pronounced style in his work, contributed both the Satirical Theater where he worked for many years and his specific sense of humor. This is the inspiration that shapes the inimitable ironic charm which is instantly discovered in his theatrical posters. In them, he openly gives a joking commentary on the story of the play and often as capturing the idea, provokes with charisma and ideology of the literary text. Thus he enters into a psychological analysis, teasing the world and Bulgarian dramaturges.
This disposition quite naturally relates to the academic activity of Ludmil Chehlarov – amusingly genuine and fascinating the audience. But this versatility is accompanied by meticulous rigor and high criterion towards the students. With his rich professional experience and attractive approach, Prof. Chehlarov skillfully engages into the poster magic his alumni, opening new horizons ahead of them. In this walk of life of his, he introduces a specific approach and a different artistic nature in the teaching traditions of the Academy.
Ludmil Chehlarov's unique work is in the forefront of the contemporary theatrical poster, defining the foundation in the development of Bulgarian Poster Art. And even now his posters continue to wink at the viewer and make him smile under the mustache, even if the poster is not funny.
